How T.T. helps to develop your body

Ever wondered how a small game of Table Tennis can improve your body? Here's the answer.

Table tennis is a great game to play. Of course, it is like any other game as it has its own charms and toughies. I feel that table tennis is a bit different as it looks like you are just standing there and hitting a ball but when you actually try it, you can experience how hard it is. I actually like table tennis a lot but after a play for about 15 minutes, I start to feel little droplets of sweat coming down my forehead. It is really a lot of fun but it is also quite tiring. Down below, I have come up with some things that you can improve when you play table tennis.

Endurance – The ability or power to bear long pain or hardship. This happens as when you move your hand during table tennis for a long time it starts to hurt. When it starts to hurt you feel like you can’t even lift your arm. A second case of this is also when you are focusing on the ball, your eyes start hurting or watering and then you can’t see the ball. Soon, after you play a lot of t.t. you realize that it doesn’t hurt anymore. This will also help while playing other sports like squash or tennis.
Wrist and hand movement – During table tennis you can develop the way you move your wrist and hand. The nifty movement of the wrist in t.t. helps you to move your wrist more freely. You can quickly turn your wrist any way whether it’s t.t. or any other sport. The pendular movement of the hands helps you to make the ball go to a lower height, thus making it harder to return.

Agility – To be able to think quickly and intelligently. This applies in t.t. as it helps you to make quick decisions on where to hit the ball during a game. It helps you to know when and at what angle you should hit the ball. For example, when you are thinking about the force you should apply when the ball is quite high, agility is very much needed. Agility can be used in almost anything.

Foot placement – During table tennis, you can develop your foot placement skills. When you are trying to hit the ball, if you don’t have good foot placement then you could slip or not be able to hit the ball in a correct angle. It also gives you good grip so when you run you can move with short, quick footsteps all around the table.

Accuracy - It is important to be accurate during matches as when you want to hit a ball in a certain place it will be needed. In t.t. accuracy will have to be developed quickly as if you aren’t accurate then each time you hit the ball, it will go in the net. Accuracy is also needed in almost anything in life like cutting vegetables, colouring a picture, planting flowers etc.

Speed - Having speed during t.t. is very important because when you hit the ball, if slow then it could be smacked and then by the time it comes to you, you don’t know where it is. But if you hit the ball with high speed and accuracy, it will be very hard for the opponent to hit. Having speed during any game is very much need. As you keep playing t.t., you will find that your hand speed will be faster. For example, when you first learn how to type letters, you do it slowly one letter, one finger at a time. Now, after many years of experience, you know where the keys are so you can type faster.

I think that when you learn table tennis you can play games and do other things much better and faster. After all of the aches at the end of the day when you play t.t. you feel it was all worth it.

  1. I think this is the best article!! Two other things that TT helps:

    1) Hand-eye coordination: You can move your hands as fast you want, but if you don't connect what you see with what your hands are doing, you are not playing too well.

    2) Strategy-making: Where do you hit the ball? How do you anticipate where the ball's going to come back? What are your opponents weaknesses? How do you exploit them? .... and many other questions like these.

Again, best article so far, much better than carbon dating! :-)
