Internet in Globalization

By: Niketa Nerurkar
The Internet has a great deal of importance in Globalization. Let's see how...

-The role of Internet in Globalization is extremely important. The word globalization is to make something be adopted globally. According to me, the Internet has changed the world a lot. I will now explain why…

Communication- The Internet is used as a great means of communication. We can now look at someone who is on the other side of the globe through a webcam within seconds. The world has now gotten smaller due to programs like Skype, Messenger etc. We also now have group social networking sites like Facebook, Orkut and Twitter. This has changed the world drastically as people can communicate from such a long distance. People also transmit data through emails. This is a very popular thing to do. Now, writing a letter is no more important as we use emails. This is because a receiver can get a message within a minute. E-mails are faster, more efficient and can be sent in many quantities.

Entertainment - Many people, across the globe, spend their time on the Internet playing games. They listen to songs, watch videos and download. The Internet has now become famous for downloading programs like Limewire. People across the globe get addicted to games on the net. There are games where you can play against people in another place. This has changed the usage of time in people’s lives.

Politics - Politics has now become a great part of the modern world today. Candidates can campaign with advertisements and websites. This brings awareness to people about the correct leader, party etc. People can also vote online. This makes it easier as some people who might be too busy to go to the polling station. Still, they can sit at one place and vote.

Commerce - The Internet has now brought about means of shopping. Sites like Amazon and EBay now have a virtual shop where people around the globe can buy and sell objects. This is very useful as there is a variety of things t0 choose, from different places. Second-hand objects like CD’s and electronics can also be sold and bought.

Matrimony - Nowadays, many people use the Internet for matrimonies. They find people to spend their lives with from all across the globe of their type, culture, likings etc. This has changed the world as people no more go to one another’s houses.

Messages - The Internet is very useful for spreading messages. For example, many times on a webpage, you will see ads of ways to stop global warming. This for the younger generation is very important as we will be living later on. I think if there is any useful ad on current issues it should be put on popular sites like Yahoo or Naver.
Research – The last but most important is research. Research on the Net is a very important thing in this young generation. Here information, videos, images, essays, news etc. can be found. Nowadays, all projects are done with the help of the Internet. Teachers now give projects and homework that relates to research on the Internet. Many search engines from different countries like Google, Yahoo, Bing, Ask and Naver are very useful for quick results of a search. Results from all over the world, in different languages come within a second in front of you. This has changed the world as many people no more go to libraries. They go on the Net.
Thus, the role of the Internet to globalization is like bread is to butter. It is completely essential.
